Artist Statement
As an artist, my goal is to create beautiful and well-crafted works of art for people to enjoy. When I design a piece, I begin with an emotion that I want to convey to the viewer, and I compose the representational imagery so that there is a flow of energy between the underlying abstract shapes that creates movement and liveliness in the piece. The images of people, animals, and nature and the variety of textures, color, and form create interesting scenes that also convey the feeling of the piece. It is important to me that each piece that I make is carefully crafted to be strong and long lasting. My medium is high-fire ceramic, but often other materials are included as part of the installation. I research and test the materials I use for suitability with the environment in which the piece will be installed so that they can be enjoyed for years to come.
